A failed sling tag, an unreadable inspection note, or a shackle that moved between crews without a record can create the same problem - you no longer have defensible control over the asset. That is the real issue behind how to track rigging assets. It is not just about knowing where gear is. It is about proving status, inspection history, and serviceability at the moment someone asks.

Rigging programs usually start to break down in familiar ways. Assets are logged in spreadsheets, inspection forms live in trucks or gang boxes, photos stay on individual phones, and certificates are buried in email threads. The gear may still be in use every day, but the record around that gear becomes fragmented. When that happens, operations lose time and compliance teams lose confidence.

How to track rigging assets in the field

The most effective tracking systems begin with one rule: every asset needs a unique identity that stays with it for its full service life.
